So as some of you may know, I ran a successful Kickstarter recently to help fund Stairwell Volume 4. It was SUCH a success that not only will there be a Stairwell Volume 4, but there will also be DAILY STAIRWELL STRIPS again, starting in January.
I’ve been doing a lot of drawing exercises and comic writing because I wanted to make sure I delivered solid content that everyone could enjoy and that I could be proud of. One of the things I’ve been testing is word bubble changes.
In the picture here, you can see behind-the-scenes test panels where I try to see what the strip would feel like if there was a change. Panel 1 is the strip’s bubbles as they are now. Panel 2 are organic-hand draw word bubbles, with a stroke outline. And Panel 3 is the same as 2, just with no stroke.
After taking a reader survey, I’m leaning heavily toward going with panel 3 when the comic goes daily again in January. Until then, all the upcoming holiday strips will be done in the “old style” while I continue to think about it.
