Happy 6 Year Anniversary to A Rusty Life

Six Years of A Rusty Life!
Six Years of A Rusty Life!

That’s right! Six years ago today was the first time Rusty and Kevin graced the Internet. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. It’s started as a simple experiment with a brand new computer program and six years later it’s evolved and still going strong. I really have no intentions of slowing down either. I renewed my domain name for another 5 years I’m gonna see if I can take it that far for sure.

I’d like to take a moment and thank some people who have helped me along the way. Some of them have helped directly by helping me with story ideas or polishing things, other people help just by reading and keeping me motivated to deliver content and push myself to become a better artist and story teller. I’d like to thank (in no particular order) my Mom and Dad, my uncle Dave and aunt Carol, Chris, Rey, Kelen, Victor, Roger, Jamie, Andy, TJ and Cassie, Jess, Inspot members, former UTurn CS members, Eyeskream members and Ross. If I forgot anybody, please forgive me, it was not intentional. I appreciate all your guy’s help and support over the past 6 years.

To commemorate the occasion I have rushed out “Black and White” the FIRST A Rusty Life treasury! Now, there are a couple of footnotes you need to know before you get too excited. The cost is BIG. I apologize. I HAD to go through a company called Blurb to make them and as great as Blurb is, the service was expensive. This is important: I DO NOT WANT ANYBODY TO FEEL OBLIGATED TO PURCHASE ONE. Trust me, it was hard enough for me to buy my own copy. I will not be offended if no one ends up buying it. It was mostly for me to have my own physical copy to show off to company and things like that. Second, If you happened to have struck it rich and decide to purchase this book, I would honestly recommend waiting a couple more weeks. While technically the book is now available, the cover was a place holder cover and is really pixelated. If that doesn’t bother you, go nuts. Otherwise, I expect to be able to get a newer, fancier cover for it available in the store shortly so that I can increase the appeal of the product for you guys.  Also, it’s worth noting that TWO more ARL books have been  FINISHED and I’m waiting to get the first test copies of each from the printer before deciding on release dates for them. If you have all three treasuries, you’ll be in possession of all of the old original ARL material (IE: everything that was done with stacked frames). Everything after that is still be worked on.

Without further ado, I present “In Black and White”:

An “A Rusty Life” …
By Johnathan Bigelow

The cover is a little boring because, as I said, it was a test cover that ended up becoming the real cover when I lost the source for the orginal book, and because I chose not to mess with the integrity of the original strips. This is what the book might have looked like, if the book had released in 2003 or 2004. Expect more of the same with the next few books as I have chosen, again, not to mess with the artistic integrity of them. They still end up being much nicer covers  and that’s what inspired me to go back to fix this one. I’ll probably do that this week and get a new test copy sent to me and then release it officially. Check this area for news on the official release of that one.

I just want to say one more time, thanks for sticking with me. You guys drive me forward and add so much joy to my life and I truly appreciate it.

Happy 6th Birthday Rusty.

-John
